The small island is located between Santorini, Sikinos and Milos and is famous for Katergos beach which is considered the most beautiful beach of Folegandros. It is located at the south-eastern end of the island, in a completely uninhabited area and across from it is the islet of Pelagia.

In the past, the inhabitants took the iron deposit "hematite" from here to paint their boats and houses with its powder, and injuries from improvised explosives were the reason why it was named so.

It is a long beach with fine white pebbles and crystal clear deep blue waters!

A very large rock a few meters into the sea creates a nice sight and attracts many bathers who swim here to take a dip.

The rock island in the middle of the bay creates a strong sea current which heads south towards Skopelos. Don't try to swim against it though as your strength may leave you before you know it.

In Katergos you won't find any organization at all, so make sure you have the necessary things like water and snacks with you, because the nearest point where you can find anything is an hour's walk away.

The beach has no shade at all except in the late afternoon, so if you can it would be a good idea to bring your own gear.

The place attracts many visitors although it is relatively difficult to access. It is an ideal destination for those who want something special, away from the many tourists and the usual.

You can access the beach in two ways.

The first and easiest is with the excursion boats that run regular routes from Karavostasi, the port of the island.

The second way is for hiking enthusiasts and not only. Starting with your car from Karavostasi in the direction of Livadi, at the end of the road, instead of turning left towards Livadi camping and beach, turn right towards the settlement of the same name. About 40 meters from the bend, you meet a fork with a small concrete section which ends in a dirt road and turn left. You leave your vehicle in the settlement and continue on foot. Just a few meters further, at the house with the barn, turn left again where the path begins. There is red marking along the entire length of the said path, so that even someone who is walking the path for the first time in his life can comfortably and safely go down without losing his way. Be careful when going down because the ground is loose. After 45 minutes of walking you will see it from above! You will surely be impressed by the blue color of the waters that will challenge you to dive!
