Description
The site lies about 2 kilometers northeast of the village of Yiannitsi in the region of Cavo D’ Oro, an area known for its strong winds, rough seas, and arid climate. The castle's primary role was to monitor the open Aegean Sea and the strait between Evia and Andros.
In 1321, while under Catalan control, a truce was signed at the castle, ending the conflict between the Venetians and Catalans in the region. As part of the peace terms, the castle of Fylagra was dismantled.
Today, only remnants of the ancient (not medieval) walls can be seen.
